The idle speed is a function of the engine management software. No external
adjustments.

Sorry,

Dave

Yes...clean or replace the idle air control valve. The engine
shouldn't be idling at 500 rpm.

Tom:

I have Explorer 2000 EB, with a 4.0L SOHC engine. I just had the IAC
replaced. It idles at about 600 ~ 650 rpm and the idle is rough.

Actually when I start the cold engine it initially idles at about 1000
rpm ( idle at these rpm is pretty smooth) for about 5 minutes or so
but then the idle rpm drop to about 600 (even before the temperature
gauge rises to normal operating temperature) and the idle becomes
rough, the roughness is much more noticeable when I am stooped at a
traffic light (when car is gear).

The Dealer/Stealer is at a loss, does not have a clue as to what is
happening.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Matt

Valve Jobs OHV vs SOHC engines - Just curious- anyone know what's the typical mileage before a valve job is needed? The original OHV V6 has cast iron heads, the SOHC has aluminum heads. In ancient times, seems like it was normal to do a valve job at 100,000 miles. I recall being amaze...

99 XLT SOHC 62K miles, when to change plugs? - My truck runs fine , no problems. I thought I read in my manual that the spark plugs should be changed at 100K. I was just woondering has anyone changed theirs earlier and if there is any reason for me to change them now being my truck is 8 years old.

SOHC V6 vs V8 Reliability - Reading this newsgroup as well as an Explorer forum makes it seem that the SOHC V6 has real problems with cam chain tensioners and noise that are expensive to repair. I am thinking of a newer Explorer or a Toyota 4Runner (2004-2007). But the cam chain...
